The discussion begins with a brief reprisal of my TEDX talk as I recounted my personal experience with the connection between insomnia and sleep-disordered breathing. This experience and that of our insomnia patients led to our theory on how racing thoughts at bedtime serve as a defense mechanism to prevent sleeping in order to avoid compromised sleep breathing. We call this theory the “Respiratory Threat Matrix Model of Chronic Insomnia.”
