Recently, in sending out promo emails about Life Saving Sleep to some of my former patients, I received the reply (below) on one man’s interesting journey. Although we regularly pushed for our patients to achieve success with advanced PAP devices, there are no small number of individuals who require different options, some of which thankfully lead to great success stories.
Good Evening Doctor,
Thank you for the email. I’ve ordered your book and as someone who has lived the journey of sleep and mental heath, I’m looking forward to reading it.
You were kind enough to see me several years ago to help evaluate my UARS after I was pushed off by most medical practitioners claiming that I had no problems or that there was nothing they could do. With your help, I trialed BIPAP and ASV. While they helped a bit, I still suffered from daily tiredness, but more predominantly restless/anxious sleep and moderate to severe anxiety and depression.
I elected to undergo EASE and MMA surgery with Doctor Kasey Li. After EASE, I saw about a 50% improvement in my mood. Post MMA, I finally began to sleep well and my anxiety and depression decreased dramatically. So much so, that I was able to excel in my career, get a dog, buy a house and more.
Due to my dramatic improvement, I’ve decided to go back to school now that I can focus more easily and am currently studying in a Master’s program. Based on my experiences, I hypothesize that a non-insignificant number of cases of treatment resistant depression/anxiety/other disorders are caused by sleep issues.
By the way, Dr. Li in Palo Alto, CA is one of the world’s most recognized oral surgeons for treating sleep-disordered breathing. I wrote about him and the procedures mentioned above in my new book.
