Upcoming Technology for Diagnosis and Treatment of Sleep-Disordered Breathing
Two more advances are here or coming soon depending on where you live or availability.
ResApp device known as the SmartCheckRx will use your phone to diagnose your OSA. It showed nearly 90% agreement with in-lab sleep studies, albeit in this type of research, it’s usually dealing with moderately severe to severe cases. Thus, it remains unknown how well it will function in mild to moderate sleep breathing disorders, like UARS.
The Genio device appears to represent an important step forward in neurostimulation of the tongue. Three improvements from the original HGNS are noted. First, only one incision is needed instead two. Second, the device innervates both sides of nerve that stimulates your tongue instead of just one side. And, three, the activation system does not require implantation under your skin. Rather, it’s a simple patch placed near or over the incision site, which then activates the neurostimulator when needed for sleep.
